Collection: DynaCap

Overview

DynaCap is a brand built on making electro-capacitive (EC) keyboards more accessible through wider compatibility and thoughtful design. Guided by our motto, “Erasing Compromise,” we set out to revive innovation in a space that had grown stagnant. Previous solutions often suffered from keycap interference that dulled the signature “thock” with unwanted "clack," limited keyboard compatibility, and inflated prices. DynaCap eliminates those compromises—our parts avoid keycap interference, fit a broader range of keyboard designs, and remain affordable.

Travel Distance

The travel distance for DynaCap switches depends on which silencing rings are used during assembly. Below is a table outlining the differences between implementations:

  • Travel Distance: 3.75mm

  • Pre-compression: 0.25mm

This is the recommended silencing ring for DynaCap and is what this product line was designed around. They provide a slight amount of dome pre-compression, which reduces wobble and eliminates rattle.

  • Travel Distance: 3.95mm

  • Pre-compression: 0.05mm

This is the thinnest ring you can use without introducing rattle to your switch assembly. These rings will have slightly more wobble while providing a little extra travel.

  • Travel Distance: 4mm

  • Pre-compression: None

Rings are highly recommended, but if you prefer the rattle, then feel free to rock your EC assembly without silencing rings!

Material & Feel

DynaCap housings and sliders from our first EC switch series are injection-molded with Delrin (POM), a self-lubricating thermoplastic known for its low friction and satisfyingly “thocky” sound signature. The line is engineered for smooth travel while preserving a touch of the nostalgic, scratchy EC feel.

Compatibility

The DynaCap Classic line is its own ecosystem and many of our goals are accomplished when the parts work in tandem with one another. That being said, we've been testing and working with other influencers and enthusiasts to create a growing list of compatible parts. Before we get into third-party product compatibility, let's first go over plate compatibility.

Plates

Early on, we chose to provide first-class support for 1.5mm thick plates. Why? Most MX keyboards are designed to work with 1.5mm plates, and many laser-cutters and factories are not willing or able to tap sheet metal in thicknesses less than that. Historically, many EC plates were made with 1.2mm thick sheet metal. Not only is that thickness harder to tap, the screws are easier to strip over time.

Despite supporting 1.5mm plates by default, we knew we needed to support 1.2mm plates as well, which is why we've developed specialized DynaCap housing gaskets made of 0.4mm thick die cut silicone. These gaskets fill the .3mm gap and allow for a tiny bit of compression to prevent housing/plate wobble.

In addition to the thickness of the plates, it's also worth mentioning that DynaCap is compatible with OEM-style EC plate cutouts, even though the housings look fairly unique from the rest of the competition. The middle vertical section of the DynaCap housings are designed to fit perfectly inside OEM cutouts, while the top is redesigned to avoid keycap interference.
